Overview

The Siren PoE is a PoE-powered audible alarm that integrates with UniFi Protect. When Protect detects a defined trigger, the siren activates automatically or on manual command through the Protect interface. It operates both indoors and outdoors depending on mounting location.

Unlike battery-powered sirens that require pairing with a separate alarm panel, this siren is purely part of the UniFi Protect ecosystem and is managed through the same interface as the cameras.

Why I Recommend It

A camera system that silently records an intrusion is useful for review after the fact. A siren that activates during an intrusion event adds deterrent value. The combination covers both purposes within the same system.

Traditional alarm systems with standalone sirens require separate monitoring subscriptions and separate panels. The Siren PoE adds audible deterrence to an existing Protect deployment without introducing a second alarm infrastructure.

Performance & Reliability

Sound output is loud enough to be clearly audible from outside a building. Activation response from a Protect trigger is typically under two seconds. The tone and pattern are configurable in Protect.

PoE power removes battery dependency, which is the most common failure point of standalone sirens. As long as the network and switch are operating, the siren is available.

Like all Protect-dependent devices, if the NVR is offline or the network is down, automated siren triggers don't fire. For security-critical applications, this dependency is worth considering against a standalone alarm panel.

Setup & Installation

Mount and connect Cat6 for PoE, adopt in UniFi Protect, configure the trigger rules under the Protect automation settings. Positioning for maximum deterrent effect is usually exterior corners or above main entry points.

Value for the Money

Adds audible deterrence to a Protect system at a reasonable cost. The alternative of a separate alarm system with its own siren, panel, and monitoring adds cost and complexity that doesn't integrate with the camera system.

For residential use where Protect is already deployed, this is the natural audible alert addition. For commercial applications requiring alarm monitoring by a central station, a UL-listed alarm system with a separate panel is the appropriate solution and the Siren PoE is a supplement rather than a replacement.
