Overview

The G6 Pro Entry combines a high-resolution camera with an NFC and RFID reader into a single flush-mount unit. It handles both access control credential reading and surveillance from the same device, and connects to a Door Hub or Gate Hub for lock control.

The Pro designation indicates the higher-grade optics compared to the standard G6 Entry, with better low-light performance for darker entry environments.

Why I Recommend It

Separate camera and card reader installations double the surface hardware and the wiring complexity. The G6 Pro Entry puts both in one unit with a premium finish that looks appropriate for a front lobby or office entrance where appearance matters.

Compared to the G6 Entry, the Pro version justifies its higher price in situations where the entry point is poorly lit or where the camera footage needs to be usable for identification. For an outdoor gate in harsh lighting conditions, the standard Entry may be adequate.

Performance & Reliability

Camera quality is among the best in UniFi Access hardware. NFC read speed is immediate. The device handles both functions without degradation to either, which matters in high-traffic entry points where multiple people are queuing.

The single-device design means one potential failure point for both camera and access functions. A device failure takes both down simultaneously. For high-security or high-traffic entries, pairing with a backup credential method is prudent.

IP55 rated for weather resistance. Designed for outdoor use but not for submersion. Mounted under an overhang where possible.

Setup & Installation

Runs on PoE. Connect to a Door Hub or Gate Hub over the network, configure reader credentials through UniFi Access, and add the camera to UniFi Protect. The integration between Access and Protect means door open events are visible in the camera timeline.

Value for the Money

Premium price for premium finish. The G6 Pro Entry is appropriate where you'd otherwise install both a quality camera and a separate card reader. Combined device cost may be similar or lower than buying both separately while reducing installation complexity.

For a home garage door or residential gate, this is more hardware than the situation calls for. It's designed for commercial entry points where the visual presentation of the hardware matters.
