Overview

The G6 Bullet is a 4K outdoor bullet camera with a weather-sealed housing designed for direct rain exposure. The cylindrical bullet form factor is directional by design, pointing at a defined area rather than providing a wide ambient view, and the housing includes a sun shade to reduce lens glare in outdoor installations.

It mounts to a wall or ceiling surface via a direct arm bracket and is PoE-powered from a single Cat6 run.

Why I Recommend It

Bullets are the right choice when you know exactly where you need to look and want to maximize resolution in that specific direction. A dome spreads coverage. A bullet concentrates it. For a driveway approach, a gate entrance, or a specific exterior door, that concentration is the point.

IP66 weather rating makes it suitable for direct outdoor exposure without additional housing. Turret cameras with lower IP ratings need to be covered. The G6 Bullet doesn't, which simplifies outdoor mounting locations significantly.

Performance & Reliability

At 4K with a standard lens, the G6 Bullet captures license plate numbers and facial detail at meaningful distances where lower-resolution cameras show blurry shapes. Daylight footage is sharp and well-exposed. Night vision is adequate for typical distances in the 20 to 30 foot range.

Bullet cameras are fully exposed to the elements and direct sun. UV degradation of housing plastics over many years is real. Ubiquiti's G6 housing materials are better than budget cameras but periodic inspection of cable entry seals is sensible after five or more years.

The sun shade helps prevent lens flare from direct sun but doesn't eliminate it in all sun angles. Positioning tests at different times of day before final mounting prevents post-install disappointment.

Setup & Installation

Mount the bracket to a solid surface, connect Cat6 through the bracket into the camera, adopt in Protect. The camera direction adjustment happens at the bracket pivot before final tightening. Use the live Protect feed to confirm coverage during adjustment.

Value for the Money

Priced in the mid-range of the G6 camera line. For outdoor perimeter coverage where direction is well-defined, the bullet provides better value than a wide-angle camera that captures more irrelevant area at lower resolution.

Pair bullets for specific targets, like driveways and gates, with a panoramic or dome camera for the wider property overview. The two types complement each other better than using either exclusively.
